If you want to maintain your vehicle in top shape for longer, you have to check the oil regularly. If you need tips on how to do this on your own, this post by Lee ; Rita Downhill in Frankford can guide you through it.

The engine has a tough job: it's responsible for transforming fuel into energy and providing the power your vehicle needs to move you with little effort. Still, when it does, its moving components generate friction that could damage the engine and render it useless. To reduce some of the friction and wear and tear, there's motor oil that coats those moving components and protects them, and lubricates them. This helps ensure that the engine will work smoothly, safely and perfectly for many years to come. However, for the motor oil to perform the protection and lubrication the engine needs, it has to be in good condition and at the right level. One way to check if this is the case is to perform a test with the dipstick. It's a simple procedure that you can do on your own regularly to ensure you keep your engine in perfect working shape for a long time. If you need a general guide on how you can check the oil in your own engine, continue reading the post below.

If you notice that the engine needs new oil after the test, feed it with the most effective synthetic oil. Call Lee ; Rita Downhill in Frankford at (613) 398-1144 or browse AMSOIL's online store to place an order on products to keep your vehicle in top shape.

How to Check the Oil

Read the Owner's Manual

The first step is to read your owner's manual to find specific information on your vehicle's maintenance. While this post will give you a pretty good idea of what you have to do to go through with the inspection, it's a good idea to refer to the manual.

Find Level Ground to Park Your Vehicle

Since this inspection is meant to show you your vehicle's oil level, parking in uneven terrain can skew the reading. For that reason, find level ground where you can park your car safely to go through with the test.

A well-maintained vehicle can save you time and money and keep you safe. Call Lee ; Rita Downhill in Frankford at (613) 398-1144 or browse AMSOIL's online store to learn more about the top-quality products you can use for its maintenance.

Allow the Engine to Cool Down

As you know, a running engine generates friction which, as a result, generates heat. The engine's temperature can increase a lot, so you must allow the engine to cool down. Letting the engine rest for half an hour will ensure you won't burn yourself.

Locate, Pull Out and Wipe the Dipstick

For the next step, you have to locate where the dipstick is. The dipstick is a stick near the engine with MIN and MAX marks on it (refer to the manual for more information). You have to pull it out and wipe it clean with a rag to be able to read the oil level well.

Reinsert and Repull the Dipstick

Doing a test with a dipstick is pretty easy. All you have to do is reinsert the dipstick back in its place, wait for a couple of seconds, then pull it out again. The oil will coat the dipstick and leave a mark, with which you'll be able to tell where it lies within the MIN to MAX scale.

If you want to have a smooth, strong, healthy, and safe engine, feed it with AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil, the most effective synthetic motor oil.

Take a Look at the Oil's Conditions

Once you take a dipstick out, you have to notice the oil's condition. Is it below the MIN mark? Refill the oil and check for leaks. Is it over the MAX mark? Pour some of it out to reach the right level. Is the oil dark and coarse? This means that it's dirty and it will need replacing soon.

Follow the Right Steps

Finally, you have to follow the proper steps to keep your engine in mint condition for longer. As stated above, you should refill, pour out, or replace the oil depending on its condition. Moreover, you should remember to follow these steps regularly to maintain the engine.
